This is craft-a-long starts on January 1st, 2020 and runs through December 25th. The goal is to try out as many beautiful new stitch patterns as we can for 2020, and come out at the end with something wonderful to show for it. You can hang your squares individually in picture frames or assemble them into larger projects like pillows, blankets, or throws as your heart desires.
To count for this craft-a-long, your project should be two things: a celebration of stitches/textures, and a square or rectangle of some type.
Your project can be 1 rectangle or many rectangles.
You are welcome to do the stitch experimentation within the one rectangle (such as would be the case in blankets that change stitch patterns without binding off, or scarves/stoles, etc) OR all in separate rectangles (such as is the case in all the provided patterns for this craft-a-long where one square includes one stitch but many squares are made).
Special for this 2020 Choose-Your-Own knit-a-long, we've designed sets of three coordinating squares to be released each month and encourage you to knit along with us by choosing 1, 2, all 3 of the squares to craft together each month. The first set of squares will be available by January 6th and in following months they will be available by the first Monday of each month in our Ravelry store. Squares contain instructions to convert between different gauges as needed. You can also create your own stitch pattern squares or use one of these ready-made patterns below, which include multiple crochet options.
There is no minimum number of squares or stitches that must be used, but we hope that you will take this opportunity to experiment with a variety of patterns, textures and techniques!
It is simply too labor-intensive for us to individually approve every single possible pattern option that might meet these guidelines, so for the purposes of this craft-a-long, we will not be approving any patterns beyond the list of 15 pre-approved options provided above. However, since the pattern options also include "create your own," any pattern you find you want to follow that fits the criteria above should be perfectly workable into this option and we will not be rejecting any KAL submissions on this basis so long as they meet the other criteria.
How it Works
This knit-a-long officially begins on the first of January. First, choose your pattern! Pick your yarn, maybe even get ambitious and do a swatch (while earning your Swatchbuckler badge!), and cast-on with your fellow ESKers in the Ravelry thread. When your project is done, head to your Yarnathon dashboard to submit your project and get your yardage and stars. Our goal is to have as many of you as possible finish your projects within the timeframe of the knit-a-long (truly knitting "along"), but we'll accept submissions for all 2020 knit-a-longs all the way up through December 25th to allow maximum participation.
Prizes: All 2020 KALs have six size options to allow everyone to play. You'll earn more yardage and stars the larger your project is. You can combine as many projects as you'd like - just wait to submit until all your projects for the KAL are done.
Requirements for ALL knit-a-longs:
- All yarn should come from Eat.Sleep.Knit except for minor embellishments
- All projects should start on or after the start date for the knit-a-long and be completed and submitted by December 25th, 2020
- All projects should use the patterns or themes specified by the individual knit-a-long requirements
- All projects completed within the knit-a-long calendar timeframe will be eligible for the Ravelry prize drawings for that knit-a-long.
